Farmington Recreation Department
is pleased to announce
“Cabin Fever” programs to help make it
March Madness? Nah, it’s time to put your basketball away! After a long, hard, winter the next playing seasons coming
up on the calendar are outside Spring sports. Best guess would be that those game fields and courts won’t be ready much before April 1st. As a result, the Farmington Rec. Dept. will try to offer three “filler” programs - something to fill the down-time between Winter ball and Spring training.
The following three “Cabin Fever” programs are designed for a limited number of children in grades 4, 5 and 6 and will be held once a week inside in the Bjorn Gymnasium at Farmington Community Center.
Saturday Morning “BP”
If Cal Ripken Baseball or Babe Ruth Softball is your thing for spring, we’re happy to give aspiring players the chance
to come to our gym for some Saturday morning BP or “Batting Practice”. Supervised and instructed by our own staff the children will have the opportunity to hit against our pitching machine, given pointers to improve their throwing and fielding using our “softee” baseballs or softballs and even play a stickball scrimmage just for fun.
Scott Peacock will be directing this new program every Saturday morning from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. beginning Saturday, March 8th and ending Saturday, March 29th. Scott is a Sophomore at UMF and has worked for the Rec. Dept. since last Fall. He has been playing baseball since he was five years old, with three years on the Monmouth Varsity team, five years of umpiring and two years of little league evaluations. Scott will be assisted by staff member Chris Silva in workouts with baseball players.
A student on the UMF Softball team and fellow Rec. Dept. Staff supervisor, Hannah Lust, will be on hand to help Scott work with softball players.
A limited number of spaces are available for the four Saturdays this program is run. The cost is $ 5.00 per training session and attendance will top out each week at the first 14 to register and pay to participate.
