Motor Vehicle Registration
new plate design
On May 1, 2025 the Bureau of Motor Vehicles will begin transitioning from the existing Chickadee plate to a new Pine Tree plate design. Rapid Renewal customers will have the option to reserve their existing plate number when completing their registration renewal. Customers from towns that don't participate in Rapid Renewal will be able to reserve their existing plate number using a Standalone Reservation process.
DON'T FORGET TO UPDATE YOUR EZPASS.ACCOUNT.
Automobile registration for Farmington residents requires payment of an excise tax to the Town and a registration fee to the State of Maine. Because the Town of Farmington is a full registration agent for the Maine Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV), most first-time registrations and re-registrations can be processed by the Town, eliminating the need for a separate transaction with the BMV.
